the 29, 1865
Dear Father and Mother I
now take the opportunity
in writing you a few lines
to let you know that I
am well and hopeing when
this Letter reaches you they
will find you well. well father
Hostilites have Seaced the
war is over Johnson have Surren
dered his entire forces to Gen
Sherman on the 27th of this
month we will Soon lay
of the harness and fire Arms
to one Side and we will
will be marching home in
a few days to Gods Country
once more. we expect to Start
home in a day or two I
may get home in time to
help you harvest we will
have to march from here to
Washington and there the Army
will be Sent to their own
native States and be muster
ed out and we can go to our
homes in peace and harmony
to morn over the Death
of Old Abe he was a friend
to the Soldier and to ever
body. well father I dont
know that I have anything
more to write I think the
next Letter I write will be
at home So more.
