Dear Father and Mother
I have Seated myself this
morning to answer your letter
whitch I received the day
before Christmas also the
Suspenders whitch I was very
glad to get. they are very good
presant to me they found
me well and hearty we Captured
Savannah the 21th of this
month and three hundred
peices of Artillery five million
Dollars worth of Cotten besides
a lot of rice we was on the bigest
raid every was known Sence
the war commenced. we tore up
all the rail roads and burnt
all the Cotten mills for a
bout three hundred miles
Savannah is one of the Strongest
places in the South it takes
General Sherman to put
down this rebellion the
report is that General Thoms
has demaralized hood Army
he has captured Sixty piecs
of Artillery and twelve
thousand prisoners and a drivi
ng them before him. we captured
Several gun Boats. I believe
we will go to Charleston from
here father I dont know
that I have any thing more
to write I like to have a
few postage Stamps write
often for I like to hear from
you So no more at presant
